A Shift In Thinking

Sometimes it starts as a quiet rumble. Sometimes, it’s as powerful as a lightning strike. Other times, it’s the voice of someone telling you their story, inspiring you with their words to discover, change, and grow. At TEDxBearCreekPark, the first TEDx event in Surrey, thirteen voices from the community are coming together, unified by the power of a Shift in Thinking, to inspire and support the growth of ideas in Surrey.

Ideas Worth Spreading

Devoted to spreading ideas, TED has a reputation for short, powerful talks that not only inspire, but address universal topics and bring people together. They’ve created a global community, welcoming people from every discipline and culture and giving them a platform to share their passion, as well as their way of looking at the world with an audience that spans the globe.

TEDx, An Independent Event

Bringing the power of TED to local communities, TEDx events are independently organized by curious individuals who are looking to capture the power of ideas in their own community. Operating under a license granted by TED, TEDx events feature live speakers who spark conversations and a shift in thinking.

Alan Warburton, Lead Organizer

School Principal, Retired

Alan is a fearless spreader of ideas. He was the curator for TEDxWhiteRock in 2018, and has qualified twice to speak at the semi-finals for the World Championships of Public Speaking. His drive comes from his passion for working with teams of people towards a common goal—one of the reasons he is such a supporter of TEDx. Having been part of one TEDx event, Alan wanted to create his own event with a selected team of outstanding leaders. We must say, he accomplished his goal!

Candace Plattor

Loving With Boundaries

As a world-renowned Family Addiction Therapist, Candace Plattor has a passion for empowering families, loved ones, and addicts to take control of their lives. Having spent years working in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside with those suffering from addiction, Candace discovered one of the most dangerous contributors to keeping people living in active addiction: the enabling acts of those who love them. Bringing to TEDx a shift in thinking about what helping an addict really looks like, Candace’s talk covers how Loving with Boundaries can heal.
